What is the removal of a nasal silicone implant?

The removal of a nasal silicone implant is a surgical procedure performed by an experienced plastic surgeon. It aims to eliminate the silicone implant from the nose, addressing any aesthetic or functional concerns it may have caused. Whether you no longer desire the implant or are experiencing complications such as infection, shifting, or discomfort, the removal procedure can help restore the natural appearance and function of your nose.

During your initial consultation, your surgeon will carefully evaluate your nasal structure, discuss your specific concerns, and determine the most appropriate surgical approach. They will explain the procedure in detail, including the expected outcomes, potential risks, and any additional procedures that may be necessary to achieve optimal results.

The procedure

The removal of a nasal silicone implant is typically performed under general anesthesia to ensure your comfort throughout the surgery. Your surgeon will create incisions in inconspicuous locations, often within the nostrils or along the natural creases of the nose. Through these incisions, they will carefully remove the silicone implant while addressing any related issues, such as scar tissue or deformities caused by the implant.

After the implant removal, your surgeon may perform additional procedures to enhance the appearance and functionality of your nose, if needed. These may include reshaping the nasal cartilage, correcting any deformities, or improving the nasal airway.

Post-treatment care and recovery

After the procedure, you will stay in the clinic for some time. You will be assisted by a nurse, an anesthesiologist, and the surgeon until the anesthesiologist and surgeon deem it safe for you to leave the clinic. You must rest for a few days so that your body has time to recover. After a week, you can perform light activities, but you should not bend over. You should wait at least a month for physical exertion and lifting. It is essential to follow the advice of the nurse and the surgeon meticulously.

After the surgery, your face will be swollen for a while and may have bruising. Be careful when showering, the scars must remain dry until the stitches are removed, which happens after 1 to 2 weeks. It is advisable to sleep with your head slightly elevated so that there is no pressure on your face. The postoperative pain is usually manageable. Often, the discomforts such as bandages, swelling, and bruises are more significant. If necessary, you can use the pain relievers prescribed by the surgeon.

The total treatment duration, including follow-up visits, is 15 days.

The result

The results of the removal of a nasal silicone implant and recovery surgery are typically highly satisfactory. After the procedure, you can expect a more natural and balanced appearance of your nose, as the implant will no longer be present. The removal allows for the restoration of the nose’s original shape and contours, enhancing your overall facial harmony.

Furthermore, the removal surgery can address any discomfort or complications associated with the presence of the silicone implant. If you experienced any functional issues, such as breathing difficulties or nasal obstruction, these concerns will likely be resolved, leading to improved nasal airflow and functionality.

Risks and complications

Like any surgical procedure, the removal of a nasal silicone implant carries certain risks and complications. These can include but are not limited to infection, bleeding, scarring, changes in sensation, and asymmetry. Your surgeon will discuss these potential risks with you during the consultation, provide you with detailed information, and take all necessary precautions to minimize these risks.
