The entire treatment duration for breast implant exchange is typically around 15 days. If you are taking blood-thinning medication, it’s important to discontinue its use at least one week before the surgery. Smoking should be stopped for at least 4 weeks before and after the procedure to promote optimal healing.
On the day of the surgery, the plastic surgeon will mark the incision sites on your breasts. The previous implants will be carefully removed, and any necessary adjustments to the breast tissue or capsule will be made. New implants will then be inserted into the breasts to achieve the desired size and shape. The surgery is performed under anesthesia and typically takes around 1 to 2 hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure.

Following breast implant exchange, you will need to stay in the clinic for a period of time to ensure close monitoring by our medical professionals, including nurses, surgeons, and anesthesiologists. Drains may be placed to remove excess fluid from the surgical site, and these drains are typically removed within 24 to 48 hours. Once our medical team determines it is appropriate, you will be allowed to leave the clinic. Dental Studio Antalya will arrange transportation to your accommodation.
During the initial days of recovery, you may experience some discomfort, bruising, and swelling in the treated areas. These symptoms gradually subside within 2 to 6 weeks. Pain medication and medication to minimize swelling will be provided to ensure your comfort. Rest is essential during the first week, and pressure should be avoided on the chest area.
You may be instructed to wear a supportive bra or compression garment during the initial weeks of recovery to provide optimal support and promote proper healing. The duration of wearing these garments will be determined by your surgeon. Physical activities should be avoided for the first few weeks to allow for proper healing.
Around 2 weeks after the surgery, the stitches will be removed. After 3 weeks, you can gradually resume light activities, and approximately 6 weeks post-surgery, you can fully engage in your regular activities.
In the first few months following breast implant exchange, the incision scars may appear red or fiery in color. However, over time, they will fade and become less visible. It’s important to protect the scars from sun exposure during the first year and use a high-factor sunscreen afterward. Initially, your nipple sensation may be altered, but normal sensation typically returns. The final results become more apparent after about 3 months.
As with any surgery, breast implant exchange procedures carry general risks, including allergic reactions, poor wound healing, bleeding, or, despite sterile conditions, infections. However, these complications are rare. There is a very small risk of thrombosis or anesthesia-related risks.
In some cases, excessive contraction of the naturally forming capsule around the implant may occur, which can be addressed. The need for implant replacement may arise if the outer layer of the prosthesis wrinkles or tears. There is a small risk of breast asymmetry or permanent numbness.
